Vista Problems 5 - How to Cure Windows Mail Stuck and Failed to Send

Vista replaced Outlook Express in previous Windows with Windows Mail. If you have not started using it, I strongly recommend Mozilla Thunderbird as a better replacement. But if you still insist on using it, I will show you how to cure the mail stuck problem in this article.

Before you do anything, go to Windows Update and perform an update manually, NOW!

If you do not know HOW, press Windows key and type "Windows Update" without quote then enter, start updating now... Restart your computer after update, then open Windows Mail.

Delete the stuck mail in outbox, try to resend again. If the problem still persists, turn off anti virus mail scanning feature, try again. If still cannot send out, restart and turn off the anti virus and try again. You should be able to send by now, if not, I strongly suggest you switch to Thunderbird.

If you still cannot send, your mailbox might be corrupted; Backup your email and recreate the mailbox. To backup your mail and contacts, go to Menu, File -> Export -> Messages, select "Microsoft Windows Mail", then click Next button and select or create a new folder to export the messages. Do the same with contacts . You can also use "Windows Easy Transfer" to save the settings.

After backup, go to the folder "C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail", find a file called "WindowsMail.MSMessageStore" and delete it. ( is your actual logon name). Launch Windows Mail again and the new storage file "WindowsMail.MSMessageStore" will be created, setup your email's accounts accordingly.

Although you can save your data and recover from Windows Mail, I strongly urge you to use Thunderbird as a better alternative.
